How long does it take to learn the positions on the guitar?

I've been playing for 5 years and can play lead very well but when it
comes to improvisation I'm not good at all, and it's because I don't
know ALL my minor scales or major scales yet, I know a few though, and
I don't know that many positions like G, A, E, etc.
I'm a really quick learner so how long should it take and will I be
surprised how much I already know when I try learning them? I've
always taken guitar seriously so give me a more realistic answer that
would be the most accurate, I'm working on an album right now so I
NEED to get these positions down
